Casta Calderon Vasquez is a mother of four and a Licensed Economist, having received her degree from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua. Before moving to the United States in 1993, she served as the program and financial administrator for a women's organization, Associacion Soya de Nicaragua (SOYNICA). While working for SOYNICA she helped manage a twenty person staff and more than 500 weekly volunteers who implement programs that address immediate and long-term nutrition, primary health care, education and economic development needs of children, mothers and families living throughout Nicaragua.

Over the past seven years Casta has continued to support grass roots community development initiatives in Central America. She assists SOYNICA in seeking funds to address education and nutrition needs of mothers and children living in very difficult conditions in Managua. Since Hurricane Mitch, Casta has also helped women seek resources to address nutrition, medical, housing and water needs of children and families living in San Juan de Limay Nicaragua. In addition to her duties with Plenty Austin, Casta works in the accounting department of Southwest Key in Austin, a non-profit organization that provides education and intervention services for youth and families who have become involved in the criminal justice system. She is married to Chuck, who also works with PlentyAustin.
